Meet our 2017 Summer Coaches

August 29, 2017

This summer some of our Teen Coaches participated in the New England Farm Workers Council SummerWorks program and worked as mentors, coaches & tutors in the Massachusetts Migrant Education Program (MMEP).

Read below to find out what they learned about coaching and mentoring!

“What I learned from being a coach this past summer is how to go around difficult situations while keeping the energy up”

- Jermaine, sophomore at Renaissance High School

“What I learned this summer about being a coach and mentor is how to really maintain a student's focus on learning something new or something they say they ‘can’t do’ and bringing out the full potential in them.”

- Destiny, graduate of Central High School

"What I learned this summer about being a coach and a mentor is how to be a leader and a role model; Becoming more responsible and becoming more comfortable with communication and collaboration."

- Alan, junior at Central High School

“What I have learned this summer being a coach is that any challenge is possible as long as you try your best.”

Roberto, first-year at Pioneer Valley Christian Academy

“What I learned this summer about being a coach and mentor is that you have to be patient with the kids and learn with them as the days go by.”

Isabella, sophomore at Central High School

“What I learned about being a coach and mentor is that there are no bad kids. They just require different levels of patience and understanding.”

Grady, junior at Central High School

"What I learned this summer on coaching and mentoring is to be yourself and to not try to do everything by yourself."

Anthony Medina, first-year at Renaissance High School

“What I learned from being a coach is that variations are key. There is always more than one way to get around an obstacle to complete the job.”

Michael, sophomore at Putnam High School
